Wrapping Up the First Barn Winter-Wind-Up Shoot: A Fun-Filled Success!
The Barn’s first-ever Winter-Wind-Up Shoot has officially come to an end, and what a fantastic event it was!
Designed to bring archers together for a relaxed, friendly competition during the chilly winter months, this weekly shoot proved to be a hit among recurve and longbow enthusiasts.
Let’s take a moment to celebrate the highlights of this inaugural event.
A Winter Competition Like No Other
The Winter-Wind-Up Shoot welcomed archers of all skill levels to enjoy some lighthearted competition in a cozy indoor 18m range. Participants took aim at the ‘Barn Targets,’ which were similar to Delta MacKenzie ASA targets, adding an extra layer of excitement to the shoot. To qualify for awards, archers needed to attend at least six sessions over the three-month period, with their best scores averaged to determine their final ranking.
A Thrilling Finale
As a special treat, the competition culminated in early April with finals that brought even more excitement. The best five archers in each category stepped up to shoot three targets with three arrows each, adding their scores to their qualifying totals. This format led to an intense showdown between Matt and Anthony, who battled head-to-head with only five points separating them. In the end, Matt emerged victorious—what a nail-biter!
Sweet Treats and Camaraderie
The finals weren’t just about archery; they were also about community and celebration. Thanks to Elsie, one of our cherished members, attendees enjoyed homemade cakes and cookies alongside coffee and tea. The award ceremony was accompanied by door prizes, making the day even more memorable.
Again, a huge THANK YOU goes out to Elsie for her generosity and delicious treats!
Special Prizes and Recognition
MacHoll IT Services generously donated a $100 gift certificate from John’s Archery for the archer with the highest score—a prize that went to none other than Matt MacGilivray.
Congratulations, Matt! And kudos to all participants for their dedication and sportsmanship throughout the event.
Looking Ahead: Bigger Plans for 2026
The success of this year’s Winter-Wind-Up Shoot has made it clear that we’ll be back for more in 2026! Some participants have already voiced interest in adding a Seniors-Super-Class category next year. While we’re still brainstorming names for this new class—current contenders include Wise Owls, Seasoned Sharpshooters, and Golden Age—we’re open to suggestions. After all, archery at the Barn is all about fun!
A Big Thank You
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who participated, helped out, or simply cheered on their fellow archers during this event. Special thanks goes to John and his wife Karen from John’s Archery for their unwavering support throughout the competition.
Congratulations again to all winners and participants—we can’t wait to see you back at the Barn for more fun-filled events in the future!
Now, let’s dive into those scores and see how everyone performed!
