Another great Phil Nelson Challenge was held for the 4th time!
Once again, we were treated to beautiful weather, great spirit among the archers, and plenty of delicious food, as always.
A big thank you to Elsie and Petra, our behind-the-scenes cookie and cake masters!
The weekend featured 3 rounds of 20 targets each, which wasn’t much of a challenge for the “Phil crowd.”
It came down to a close head-to-head battle between Marcel and Anthony, with Marcel winning by just 2 points. Word around the grapevine is there may be a rematch this coming weekend at the Woodland Traditional Archers shoot in Quispamsis—stay tuned!
As usual, Saturday evening wrapped up with the BBQ and the legendary “Phil” moose burgers, followed by a get-together in the Barn with guitars, singing, and great stories.
John Craft also brought some wonderful epoxy artwork for sale, and as a special thank-you, he donated a stunning epoxy piece for the Barn wall.
Thanks, John — we’re very proud to receive it!
Along with the door prizes, Marcel Doucette donated a beautiful piece of art, including a knife, for a special draw.
Congratulations to Rodney Spencer, who won it!
What can we say — another big thank you to Marcel for his generosity, and to everyone who helped make this shoot such a success.
We also learned this weekend that Travis is “The Trophy” — wow! To add a little pressure, John switched to longbow, and from what we heard, it was a lot of fun and the laughter could be heard all over the place. In the end, Travis came in first, just ahead of John.
The ladies were strong as well, with Jennifer Williams taking top spot, followed by Karen Cann and Chenise Hache. Jennifer also placed 4th overall — well done!
In the men’s recurve class, the duel between Marcel and Anthony stayed exciting right to the end. Marcel finished first followed by Anthony Williams and Jim Dauphinee.
Overall, it was a wonderful, relaxed event.
Thanks to everyone who came to Cape Breton Island, and thanks as well to all the volunteers, both behind the scenes and out front, who helped make it all happen.
Phil, we missed you dearly. You were with us in spirit, and it was wonderful to have you join us on FaceTime throughout the weekend.
