2024 Canadian 3D Outdoor Championships
🏹 2024 Canadian 3D Outdoor Championships in Fredericton, NB: Barn Archers on the Road Again! 🏹
Last weekend, the 2024 Canadian 3D Outdoor Championships took place in Fredericton, NB, (August 2nd to August 5th) and the Barn Archers made their presence felt!
Fifteen of us hit the road from Cape Breton Island, ready to take on the 4-day competition with everything we had.
The challenge was no joke—three qualification rounds, each featuring 20 3D targets across different courses, were held on Saturday and Sunday. This was followed by the high-stakes Individual Finals Round on Monday, where scores carried over and only the top five archers in each category got to compete.
The finals involved shooting at five targets with varying distances and sizes—talk about pressure!
Friday: Registration and bow inspections kicked things off, followed by some practice range action to get into the groove.
Saturday: After a warm welcome ceremony, the first round began at 10 am, a bit later than planned, but the excitement was high.
With a heat warning in place, temperatures soared over 32°C, with a humidex of 37°C. It was a scorcher, but we stayed hydrated and powered through, with water available on all courses.
Sunday: The third qualification round started at 9:30 am, followed by the mixed-team event—an opportunity to shine as a group.
Monday: The finals were intense! For many of us, nerves were at an all-time high as the traditional shooters took to the line at 9:30 am.
⇒ Sam Meehan started off in 4th place in her group but pulled off an incredible performance in the finals, scoring 43 points and moving up to 3rd place.
⇒ Jennifer Williams was just a point shy of 4th place, ending in 5th in her group.
⇒ Anthony Williams held his ground and secured 3rd place in his group.
⇒ Karen Cann stayed strong in 4th place, while
⇒ Bridget Benz had a stunning comeback, moving from 2nd place to 1st, overtaking the leader with a near-perfect round of 48 points—winning gold by 19 points!
Our youth archers showed amazing resilience, tackling both the weather and challenging shots with enthusiasm and skill.
We couldn’t be prouder of them!
And in true Barn Archer spirit, some of our members stepped up to volunteer during the finals, helping out where needed.
A big shoutout to all the organizers, volunteers, judges, and everyone who made this event unforgettable.
